Poetry

A local poet found inspiration from the Uncle Wilber Fountain and wrote the following poem:

Uncle Wilber
by Bob Wierdon

We've got a new attraction
Right downtown in the Springs
It gives such satisfaction,
And oh, the joy it brings.
We've always had the mountains,
We've always had the wilderness,
But now we've got a fountain,
Known for its Uncle Wilber-ness.
He's poetry in motion
Right in Acacia Park.
A cauldron of commotion
Daylight 'till after dark
He's got a little doggy.
Round and around it goes.
He sounds a little froggy
On the tuba that he blows.
The children splash in sheer delight.
Old folks can't help but smile.
The music starts; your blues take flight.
You'll want to stay awhile.
Wilber's a people-magnet.
He always draws a crowd.
When Wilber does his magic,
The children scream out loud.
Wilber spins on his little stool.
He generates a flood.
Wilber is great-he's beyond cool.
He knows he's got the goods.
I like to visit Wilber.
He does a lot for me.
It's more than gold and silver
Can buy, and it's for free

Bob Wearden has published 2 books of poetry - "Slice of life" and "my pen ran wild" - his books can be found at various places around town.
